Venue and Accomodation

Soil interfaces for sustainanble development will be held at McGill University, one of Canada's best-known institutions of higher learning and one of the leading research-intensive universities in the world. McGill was founded in 1821 thanks to a generous bequest by James McGill, and since then has grown from a small college in downtown Montreal to a bustling university with 11 faculties, some 300 programs of study, and more than 37,500 students. The University also partners with four affiliated teaching hospitals to graduate over 1,000 health care professionals each year. A second campus occupies 650 hectares in the town of Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue on the western tip of the Island of Montreal. The Macdonald Campus is home to the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences and the School of Dietetics and Human Nutrition, offering numerous research centers, a working farm, greenhouses, an arboretum with walking and ski trails, undergraduate and graduate training in soil science, and much more.

Transportation and Travel Directions

McGill University is located in the heart of downtown Montreal and is easily accessible to visitors travelling by air (international and domestic flights), by train and long-distance bus (from other parts of Canada and the United States). Transportation options include rental cars, taxis, the 747 airport bus, city buses and the metro (subway system). Click here for more details.

For short jaunts around town, bike-sharing (Bixi) and car-sharing (car2go) may be good options.
